Other than the fur trappers and Yakama Indians before them the Goodwin and Stevenson families were the first. This photo is believed to be that of the J. W. Stevenson cabin that he purchased from John Goodwin in the early 1870s. It stood along the South Fork of Cowiche Creek well into the twentieth century. John Goodwin was the first permanent resident of the Cowiche region; J. W. Stevenson was the first homesteader in the region. Ask Jo Ann Tollefson who is here today; she is a descendant of Stevenson.
